锡德尼（Phillip Sidney,1554-1586）,伊丽莎白朝的朝医，在修养、人格和文学才华方面都可以称为人文主义者的代表。曾写过《为诗辩护》，认为诗的创作并不要求客观的真实，诗人可以创造更高的真实和更美的世界，这一观点影响了当时与后世的文学。他最为着名的诗作十四行组诗《爱星人与星》由108首十四行诗和11首歌组成，描写一青年受美貌女子引诱，爱上了他，从而经历了内心的矛盾。诗人将痛苦、柔情、欣喜、含蓄融为一体，音乐的美也得到了展现，表现出诗的完美结构与鲜明的艺术自律性。

月亮呵，你那么哀伤地攀上了苍天！
How silently, and with how wan a face!
那么沉默，那么憔悴的面影！
What, may it be that even in heavenly place
怎么，那么忙碌的弓手如今
That busy archer his sharo arrows tries?
在天庭之上也要来试试他的利箭？
Sure, if that long-with-love-acquainted eye
真的，假如我久识爱情的双眼
Can judge of love , thou feel’st a lover’s case;
能鉴别爱情，那么，你像情人。
I read it in thy looks: thy languished grace,

To me that feel the like, thy state descries.

Then even of fellowship, O Moon, tell me,

Is constant love deemed there but want of wit?
天上可也把执着的爱情当愚蠢？
Are beauties there as proud as here they be ?
哪儿的美人跟这儿的可同样骄矜？
Do they above love to be loved, and yet
她们在天上可喜欢被人爱--不过
Those lovers scorn whom that love doth possess?
情人们又瞧不起真正爱着的人？
Do they call virtue there ungratefulness?
她们是否把忘恩唤作美德？
