“仰望天空”是温家宝总理一首诗的诗名。北京航空大学还将该诗选为了校歌，内容很是贴切。温总理看望大学生时多次提到过这首诗，提出我们不但要“仰望天空”而且要“脚踏实地”。温总理在同济大学时说：“一个民族有一些关注天空的人，他们才有希望；一个民族只是关心脚下的事情，那是没有未来的。我们的民族是大有希望的民族！我希望同学们经常地仰望天空，学会做人，学会思考，学会知识和技能，做一个关心世界和国家命运的人。”
北京翻译公司探讨：如果将这里的“关注天空”简单的翻译为concern oneself about the sky恐怕不能表示出温总理的意思，似可翻译为concern oneself about what happens around the world。这里“around the world”比“in the world”好，但不宜翻译为on earth 或 under the sun。将“脚下的事情”直译为things underfoot也不确切，不妨翻译为things before one’s eyes。
有意思的是，2010年北京高考语文试卷中的作文题就是“仰望天空，脚踏实地”，有人翻译为Up we look at the star-dotted sky, down we tread firmly on the earth.从字面看，译文保留了中文对仗的形式。但从内容上看确不理想。“脚踏实地”是希望青年人有务实肯干的作风，英译tread firmly on the earth基本上能体现出Practical down-to-earth working attitude的意思，但是“仰望天空”是勉励青年人要有远大理想和崇高的追求，译文体现不出Lofty ideal and ambitious goal的意思，至少应在star-dotted sky前加上lofty一词。
温家宝总理的原诗全文如下：
“我仰望星空，
它是那样寥廓而深邃；
那无穷的真理，
让我苦苦地求索、追随。
我仰望星空，
它是那样庄严而圣洁；
那凛然的正义，
让我充满热爱、感到敬畏。
我仰望星空，
它是那样自由而宁静；
那博大的胸怀，
让我的心灵栖息、依偎。
我仰望星空，
它是那样壮丽而光辉；
那永恒的炽热，
让我心中燃起希望的烈焰、响起春雷。”
下面是北京翻译公司笔者的试译：
I look up at the lofty star-dotted sky, extending over a vast distance,
Signifying the infinite truth I’ve been searching in assiduous pursuance.
UP I look at the lofty star-dotted sky, so dignified, holy and serene,
Whose awe-inspiring justice arouses my admiration and reverence.
I look up at the lofty star-dotted sky, so free and tranquil,
In whose broad breast my soul finds a peaceful residence.
I look up at the star-dotted sky, so splendid and dazzling,
Whose permanent blazing heat kindles the flame of hopes and spring thunder in my heart in respondence.
